Course Essentials

Studied over 3 years, our BSc Computing Degree course has a variety of modules including programming in a range of languages, website design, software engineering and database implementation, giving you a degree that can really boost your career prospects in a variety of IT areas.

Over the duration of the course, you will learn to design, develop and review a range of new and sophisticated frameworks in existing and emerging computer technologies.

Part of Arden University’s School of Computing and IT, you’ll study through our Blended Learning programme, which combines online study with 2 days a week at one of our Arden University study centres in the UK – based in London, Manchester or Birmingham.

 

When can I study?

Requiring just 8 hours of classes a week at your chosen UK study centre.

In addition to the 8 hours of face-to-face teaching each week, you will be expected to study an additional minimum of 25.5 hours of online independent learning.

This is perfect if you want more guided learning but need the flexibility to study around work, family or other commitments.

Entry Requirements

This BSc Computing course has standard entry requirements. To be eligible for this course at Arden University you must have either:

• Two subjects at GCE A-Level or equivalent, plus passes at grade C or above in three subjects at GCSE level or equivalent; OR
• Have completed a recognised Access Programme or equivalent

Don’t meet the standard entry requirements, but have work experience?

We are happy to consider an application from you at Arden if you can show us you have the motivation to study this Blended Learning programme.

We’ll ask you for a personal statement that demonstrates your ability to study the course. We’ll also ask you for references and evidence of relevant work experience.

Not sure if you’re ready to take on this Degree?

We also offer this course as a 4 year Degree which includes a foundation year. We will consider you for the 4 year Degree programme if you hold a level 2 qualification (equivalent to 3 GCSE’s) or can demonstrate a years’ work experience.  The extra first year prepares you for university-level study and is ideal if you’re returning to study after a long absence, or want some extra reassurance before embarking on a Degree course.

Non-native English speaker?
If your prior learning was not taught in English we require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (no less than 5.5 in any element).

For each level of this Blended Learning Computing Degree course at Arden University, you will be taken on an increasingly in-depth journey into the core principles of computing.

Each module offers extensive information and insight, leaving you with a complete and systematic understanding of computing and a thorough awareness of developing industry trends.

Study skills

During the first 6 weeks of year 1 (Block 1) you will also attend 4 study skills workshops, providing advice and guidance to help you achieve university success. Sessions may include Reading & Note-Taking, iLearn Online Library, Referencing & Plagiarism and Approaching Assignments. This will bring your weekly class time up to 9.5 house a week for Block 1. The following study blocks will be the usual 8 hours classroom time (+online tuition and self-guided study time).

Assessments

We use a wide variety of assessment methods at Arden, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your strengths in more ways than one. These could include:

• Assignments

To support your development and ensure that you’re on the right track with your studies, you’ll receive tutor feedback for every assessment you submit.

Your Arden tutor may be able to give you suggestions and tips for improvement and help you understand how to apply your newly acquired skills into real-life settings if required too.

What can a Computing Degree do for me?

Almost anywhere you work, an IT structure will be in place. This means there are career opportunities available for computing graduates in almost every industry.

Completing this Blended Learning Degree will leave you in a position to apply for relevant industry roles and IT degrees are frequently listed amongst those which deliver the higher return on investment. Blended Learning also allows the opportunity to carry on working while you study.

What is Blended Learning in Arden University ?

Do you want to study for a Degree, but feel like you just don’t have the time to fit it into your life? Arden University’s  Blended Learning courses combine innovative online learning with traditional, face-to-face classes to give you a more flexible way to study.

How does it work?

The face-to-face hours are delivered as a part-time course would be, but with the additional independent online learning, you can still complete your Degree in 3 years*. This Blended approach means you can study anytime, anywhere and your tutors and support teams can be contacted outside of the classroom, online or over the phone.

When can I study?

Requiring just 8 hours of classes a week at your chosen UK study centre, you will have the opportunity to select when you want to learn: weekdays or  evenings .

• Weekdays: 2 days per week either 9.00–13.00 or 13.30-17.30
• Evenings**: 2 evenings per week 17.30–21.30
